ANNOUNCMENTS!

Pre- K parents, please remember:

   1.    If someone else will get your child off of the bus, you MUST send a note to school in the morning so that the teacher can give the information to the bus driver in the afternoon.  Without a written note, the bus driver cannot release your child to another adult.

 2. Please be ready and waiting for your child five to ten minutes before the scheduled time that they are to be dropped off.  If another child is absent from school the bus ride is not as long as usual!

In the event of bad weather, please read the following policy:

TWO HOUR DELAY: You will be picked up by the school bus at the same location TWO HOURS LATER.  For example if your normal time is 8:23 AM then it would be 10:23 AM.

EARLY SCHOOL DISMISSAL:  Please watch the news and listen to the radio on bad weather days.   PLEASE BE PREPARED to come get your child or be ready to greet the bus at anytime during the normal school day.

Please read this policy.

LANCASTER, PA., NEW ERA

SMALL KIDSbig strides

by ROBYN MEADOWS

New Era Staff Writer

When Nicholas Feddock started pre-kindergarten last month, he could write the letter N.

It’s now the end of November, and 4-year-old Nicholas can write nearly his entire name.

"The progress he’s made has just been wonderful," says his mother Deb Feddock, who volunteers often in his pre-K class at Reidenbaugh Elementary School. "I’ve seen all of the children make huge strides."

Nicholas is one of 17 children enrolled in the free, full-day pre-K class offered at the Manheim Township school. The class is run by early childhood educators from Owl Hill Learning Centers. Their school day begins at 8:45 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m.

The state pays the bill through the the new Pre-K Counts program, which is giving $75 million statewide for pre-kindergarten instruction for 11,000 children ages 3 and 4 who have been identified through screening as at risk for academic difficulties.

The goal of Pre-K Counts is to spend money earlier to save money later.

Children who take pre-kindergarten classes are less likely to go into special education and more inclined to graduate, research has shown.

Owl Hill Learning Centers is one of several agencies participating locally. In all, Pre-K Counts is putting $1.93 million into programs for 314 children across Lancaster County.
